The Executive Director will provide oversight and management over the operations at LVS under the direction of the President/CEO. The ideal candidate will be proficient in establishing a program that is sustainable, adheres to the applicable standards and regulations, and ensures our clients are managed effectively and treated with care. LVS should work in unison and in support of other services offered by the Liberation Organization i.e., Liberation Family Services, Liberation Thrift, Liberation Food Pantry, Family Resource Center, etc. By fostering an environment of kindness, trust, humility, dignity, equity and passion, the Executive Director will assist with ensuring our veterans and staff are served safely, effectively, to the highest ethical standards, and in accordance with our mission and guiding principles.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Reports to: President/CEO

General
• Uphold and exemplify LVS’s vision, mission, and core values, ensuring that every interaction reflects a deep commitment to kindness, trust, humility, dignity, equity, and passion.
• Demonstrate cultural competence and sensitivity to the linguistic, socioeconomic, and cultural diversity of clients, staff, and community members.

Program Management and Strategic Planning
• Develop and implement strategies to improve program outcomes and expand service offerings.
• Design, launch, and monitor services and programs that meet the needs of veterans, including employment, housing, mental health support, and social services.
• Oversee the development of all program goals and objectives, including the Housing Success Plans
• Design and implement policies and procedures which mirror all GPD grant guidelines, funding requirements and are aligned with LVS' mission and strategic objectives.
• Assist with strategic planning, including assessment of client populations, client needs, role of service within the community, program strengths, and opportunities for expansion of existing services or development of new services.
• Oversee the resolution of complaints or problems concerning the service that arise internally or from the community.
• Develop and maintain an overall management system that provides appropriate staff coverage for regular operations as well as a response to crisis situations.
• Assist the President and CEO in budget planning and projections for the program
• Work closely with the Operation Manager to ensure accounts are in line with budgeted numbers
• Collect and analyze data to evaluate program effectiveness and identify areas for improvement.
• Prepare and present regular reports on program performance, outcomes, and impact to leadership, funders, and stakeholders.

Budget and Resource Management
• Collaborate with the President/CEO to develop and manage the program’s budget, ensuring fiscal responsibility and compliance with funding guidelines.
• Work with the Chief Advancement Officer to identify and pursue funding opportunities, including grants, donations, and partnerships
• Allocate resources efficiently to ensure program sustainability and growth

Team Management and Development
• Supervise, mentor, and evaluate a team of case managers, housing monitors, and volunteers.
• Foster a positive, supportive, and inclusive environment for staff and clients.
• Develop and implement strategies to improve case management processes.
• Provide training and development opportunities for staff to enhance their skills and knowledge of veterans’ issues.

Community Engagement
• Serve as the primary spokesperson for the program, representing it to stakeholders, donors, and the community.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with veterans, families, service providers, and community leaders.
• Advocate for veterans’ needs and priorities at local, state, and national levels.
• Collaborate with external partners and organizations to ensure veterans have access to a full range of services.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor’s degree in social work or relevant field (Required)
• Master’s degree in social work, business, or relevant field or 10+ years’ experience in management or organizational leadership (Required)
• Trauma Informed Care, CPR and First Aid Certification, a plus
• Experience in crisis intervention and mental health skill building, (Preferred)
• Experience working with veterans is highly desirable

Pay: $75,000 - $80,000
Expected Hours: 40-50 hours per week

The Case Manager (CM) will work closely with clients to complete assessments, develop personalized goals, and ensure a safe and supportive path to stability while assuring the clients maintain their dignity and respect. By fostering an environment of kindness, trust, humility, dignity, equity and passion, the CM will guide veterans through structured Housing Success Groups, referrals, and services that promote each client’s unique journey toward self-sufficiency.

Case Management
• Apply trauma-informed techniques and case management standards to effectively serve clients, ensuring they feel respected and valued
throughout the process.
• Implement program objectives and track results of established expectations with empathy and precision.
• Conduct comprehensive psychosocial assessments within established guidelines through interviews, record reviews, and other appropriate methods, adapting support to meet diverse client needs
• Evaluate client data to recommend appropriate interventions that honor each veteran’s potential and background.
• Develop a plan to monitor and assess client progress, working collaboratively to revise treatment and service plans, incorporating feedback
and adapting as clients progress toward goals.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date case records, documenting client contacts, progress, and service changes to ensure program compliance and adherence to ethical standards.

Client Relationships
• Proactively engage with all clients through regular follow-ups, check-ins, and support meetings to ensure consistent communication, assess progress, and address evolving needs.
• Establish rapport with veterans through active listening, empathy, and respect for their military service, ensuring they feel valued and understood.
• Encourage veterans to take an active role in their care planning by setting realistic, achievable goals and empowering them to make informed decisions about their well-being.
• Support veterans in managing mental health conditions such as PTSD, depression, and anxiety by facilitating access to mental health services and building coping strategies.
• Uphold confidentiality in all interactions, ensuring veterans feel safe in sharing sensitive information and trusting their case manager with personal matters.

Community Engagement
• Build collaborative relationships with other community-based organizations to enhance advocacy, education, resource development, and public relations for veterans.
• Work closely with local healthcare providers, mental health professionals, and the VA to ensure veterans have access to a comprehensive range of medical, psychological, and rehabilitative services, and to address any gaps in care

• 3+ years’ experience in homeless services or case management (Required) Qualified

Liberation, Inc. is a multi-site non-profit organization that currently has two key programs. Liberation Veteran Services is the only homeless veteran program of its kind in the state of Virginia and the largest in the nation. It began as an alternative to entities such as Wounded Warriors which served Veterans who had visible scars and obvious barriers resulting from their military service. The second program of Liberation Inc. is a Family Resource Center that is one of five in the state of Virgnia. Liberation, Inc. works in partnership with the Liberation Church. These two entities collaborate and share space to serve the community on a larger scale with greater impact. 

Liberation, Inc. is seeking a Director of Marketing & Communications to join our Advancement team. Liberation, Inc. delivers on our mission to offer homeless Veterans the care, resources and stability needed to rebuild their lives. 

We are seeking a creative, analytical individual who possesses extensive knowledge across an array of disciplines and platforms necessary to engage and expand the donor pool and increase Liberation Veteran Services’ brand awareness. 

This position reports to the Chief Advancement Officer and will play a leading role in the department’s development initiatives, marketing programs and multi-channel communications. The Marketing & Communications Director develops and manages the marketing and communications plan for internal and external audiences. 

MARKETING & COMMUNICATIONS DIRECTOR WILL BE ACCOUNTABLE FOR HIS/HER ABILITY TO: 

Play an integral role as part of the Advancement & Communications team responsible for a comprehensive and integrated marketing and communications strategy. 

Serve as creative leader, key strategist, project manager, editor, storyteller, and principal writer for a wide variety of print and electronic projects, including impact statement, brochures, website, newsletters, social platforms, case materials, press articles, stewardship pieces, and other materials. 

Establish a set of measurements and consistently monitor marketing and communications activities to determine the impact of the marketing and communications strategy. 

Will develop with Liberation, Inc. leadership a strategic communications plan that addresses critical issues that inspire our current and potential donors, partners, and stakeholders. 

Will represent Liberation, Inc. to the press and will ensure that our initiatives are understood by the media. Pitches stories, columns, editorial content to appropriate media outlets. Presents information to the public in a manner that informs and educates them about our impact, as well as engagement and fundraising opportunities. 

QUALIFICATIONS, BACKGROUND AND COMPETENCIES REQUIRED 

The ideal candidate will have:
Bachelor’s degree in business, nonprofit management, marketing, communications or an equivalent combination of education, training, and expertise.
Three or more years of experience working in a communications and marketing role, preferably in a nonprofit setting.
Familiarity with Liberation, Inc. mission a plus 
Excellent strategist: able to define a desired outcome, understand current reality and work with others to achieve goals.
Excellent written and oral communication.
Project management experience is an asset.
Results oriented, including ability to use data to evaluate progress.
Familiarity with Microsoft Office and graphic design software. Proficiency with donor CRM software a plus.
Superior and distinctive writing ability demonstrated through relevant, progressively responsible writing, and strategic messaging experience in a fundraising setting (preferably in human services).
Strong analytical skills and well-developed business acumen; natural relationship management instincts; savvy for gaining buy-in from various stakeholders.
Orientation as a team player and leader with strong management skills.
Expertise in social media and e-communications platforms.
Flexibility to work varied hours for events and to meet deadlines.
